Conor McGregor opens as favorite in potential rematch with Dustin Poirier

All signs point to Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier meeting in the octagon again and so far, the oddsmakers like McGregor’s chances to pick up another victory over “The Diamond.”

Betting site BetOnline.ag has set McGregor as the favorite at -180 ahead of a potential rematch with Poirier. Poirier is a slight underdog at +155. For reference, McGregor was a near 3-to-1 (-280) favorite ahead of their first meeting at UFC 178 back in September 2014 according to Tapology.

Though a second bout between the two is not yet official, McGregor announced Wednesday that he is willing to fight Poirier on Jan. 23 with a preferred location of AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Previously, McGregor had demanded that the fight happen before the end of 2020. Poirier has also publicly stated that he expects the rematch to become official at some point.

BetOnline.ag lists a placeholder date of Aug. 1, 2021, for the prospective matchup.

McGregor defeated Poirier by first-round TKO in a featherweight bout at UFC 178. Since that time, McGregor went on to capture UFC championships at featherweight and lightweight while Poirier won an interim lightweight title in April of last year. Both men have competed once in 2020, with McGregor defeating Donald Cerrone in January and Poirier defeating Dan Hooker in June.
