Deiveson Figueiredo opens as sizable favorite over Brandon Moreno ahead of UFC 256 title fight

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo will once again find himself as a sizable betting favorite as he seeks to defend his title for the second time inside 30 days while facing Brandon Moreno in December.

Heading into his recent fight at UFC 255, Figueiredo was over a 2-to-1 favorite to defeat Alex Perez and the Brazilian proved odds makers correct after finishing the fight with a guillotine choke less than two minutes into the opening round.

After the event ended, Figueiredo accepted a short-notice fight against Moreno after UFC 256 was left without a headliner following bantamweight champion Petr Yan being forced out of his bout with Aljamain Sterling on Dec. 12.

With the fight just a few weeks away, Figueiredo won’t have much of a training camp in order to prepare for Moreno but that doesn’t mean odds makers are expecting an upset.

The opening odds for the upcoming flyweight title fight on Dec. 12 made Figueiredo an even bigger favorite than his last outing against Perez. The odds are courtesy of BetOnline.ag.

Deiveson Figueiredo – 260

Brandon Moreno +220

Based on those odds, it would require a $260 wager to win $100 on Figueiredo if he’s victorious at UFC 256. In return, a $100 bet on Moreno would return $220 if he pulls off the upset.

Of course the betting lines could shift depending on how much money is placed on either the champion or challenger in the lead up to their planned clash in December.

Figueiredo has been on a tear of late with five straight wins including a pair of knockouts over Joseph Benavidez as well as submissions over Perez and Tim Elliott. Meanwhile, Moreno has gone 4-0-1 in his past five fights including three straight wins in the UFC.
