On the heels of a new UFC contract, standout Edson Barboza has booked his next fight, facing off with Shane Burgos at UFC 262.

Multiple people with knowledge of the booking confirmed it to MMA Fighting after an initial report from Combate. UFC 262 takes place May 15 at a location and venue to be announced.

The now-featherweight Barboza appeared at loggerheads with his longtime promoter, asking for his release from contract in 2020. He eventually turned the page and returned to the octagon against Dan Ige at UFC on ESPN 8. After a controversial split decision loss, he rebounded with a win over Makwan Amirkhani at UFC Fight Island 5.

Barboza said he intended to fight out his contract and test his worth on the open market, but the promotion came to terms on a new deal. He is 2-5 in his past seven outings, though as a featherweight he is 1-1.

Burgos, a career 145-pounder, is nine months removed from a decision loss to Josh Emmett that snapped a three-fight win streak. One of the sharpest strikers in his division, he presents an exciting style matchup for the Brazilian kickboxing phenom.

A handful of bouts have been confirmed for UFC 262, but as of yet, no headliner has been announced.
