Heavyweights set to clash: Junior Dos Santos vs. Ciryl Gane added to UFC 256 lineup

After numerous canceled fights, Ciryl Gane has drawn a big opportunity.

Gane (6-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) will face former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos (21-8 MMA, 15-7 UFC) at UFC 256 on Dec. 12, which takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

MMA Junkie confirmed the booking with a person close to the matchup following an initial report from MMA Fighting. The person requested anonymity because the UFC has yet to make an announcement.

Gane hasn’t competed since defeating Tanner Boser via unanimous decision last December at UFC on ESPN+ 23. Since then, the undefeated French prospect has had four fights scrapped, most recently when newcomer Ante Delija was forced out due to contractual issues at UFC on ESPN+ 38 earlier this month.

Dos Santos will look to rebound from the first losing skid of his career. After picking up three straight wins, “Cigano” has been stopped by Francis Ngannou, Curtis Blaydes and Jairzinho Rozenstruik in his past three outings.

With the addition, the UFC 256 lineup includes:

  • Amanda Nunes vs. Megan Anderson – for women’s featherweight title
  • Petr Yan vs. Aljamain Sterling – for bantamweight title
  • Mackenzie Dern vs. Virna Jandiroba
  • Ronaldo Souza vs. Marvin Vettori
  • Dwight Grant vs. Li Jingliang
  • Angela Hill vs. Tecia Torres
  • Peter Barrett vs. Chase Hooper
  • Junior Dos Santos vs. Ciryl Gane
