Jon Jones shows off striking ahead of heavyweight move: ‘I move pretty good for a fat boy’

Jon Jones could be making his heavyweight debut soon, but he wants to prove that he still moves like a light heavyweight.

The two-time undisputed UFC champion has been providing regular updates on social media as he transitions out of the 205-pound division and on Thursday he shared a short clip of a sparring session to show how his training is going.

A smiling Jones looked confident as ever, displaying not only a quick jab, but the creative spinning techniques that made him one to watch even before he became the youngest champion in UFC history.

“I feel like I move pretty good for a fat boy,” Jones wrote. “I believe I’ll be moving at my all-time best once I actually get in shape.”

Jones announced last year that he would be making an oft-discussed move to the heavyweight division following a disagreement with the UFC over compensation and a voluntary relinquishing of the light heavyweight championship. A date and opponent for his heavyweight debut have not been announced, in all likelihood because Jones and the UFC are awaiting the results of the upcoming UFC 260 main event between heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou to determine their next move.

The light heavyweight title that was vacated by Jones was later won by Jan Blachowicz at UFC 253. Blachowicz defends that belt in a superfight with middleweight champion—and Jones rival—Israel Adesanya at UFC 259 next week.
