The UFC announced via a Chinese-language affiliate (h/t MMA DNA) that Wu (11-3) will now face octagon newcomer Joselyne Edwards (9-2) in a bantamweight bout at the upcoming Abu Dhabi event on Jan. 16, following the withdrawal of Wu’s originally scheduled opponent Bethe Correia due to appendicitis.
Edwards made one appearance in 2020, defeating Pamela Gonzalez by 28-second KO at an Ultimate Warrior Challenge show in Mexico. Prior to that, the 25-year-old Panamanian hadn’t fought since LFA 55 in November 2018, where she lost by split decision to future UFC fighter Sarah Alpar in a bout for a vacant bantamweight title.
Wu, 24, looks to bounce back from a split decision loss to Mizuki Inoue that took place in August 2019. She has alternated wins and losses since joining the UFC, sandwiching a first-round submission victory over Lauren Mueller with decision defeats to Mizuki and Gina Mazany.
