Kayla Harrison no longer fighting at Titan FC 66, opponent hospitalized after weighing 180 pounds

PFL

PFL champion Kayla Harrison will have to wait until a later date to make her return to action.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist was scheduled to compete at Thursday night’s Titan FC 66 card but her opponent Jozette Cotton was not able to make weight before being hospitalized due to dehydration.

Titan FC COO Lex McMahon confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Wednesday following an initial report from MyMMANews.

“Yes, unfortunately it’s true, her opponent was hospitalized last night due to dehydration, at which time she notified the promotion she can’t get below 180 pounds,” McMahon wrote in a text message.

The fight between Harrison and Cotton was contracted at lightweight, which means both fighters had to weigh no more than 156 pounds for a non-title bout. That means Cotton would have been at least 24 pounds over weight prior to her hospitalization for dehydration.

Harrison had previously defeated Cotton by third-round TKO in her second professional fight before the rematch was scheduled for this week.

It’s unfortunate news for Harrison, who was seeking to compete for the second time in 2020 after sitting out for the majority of the year after PFL cancelled their entire season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Harrison had just recently picked up a dominant victory in her Invicta FC debut.

Harrison previously informed MMA Fighting that she was allowed to compete twice outside of PFL before the next season commences in 2021. With the bout in Titan FC now scrapped, it appears Harrison will have to seek out another opportunity if she hopes to compete again before the PFL season kicks off.

Titan FC 66 airs live on UFC Fight Pass on Thursday night with a middleweight clash between Bruno Assis and Jeremiah Holloway headlining the card.
