Morning Report: Diego Sanchez responds to Joshua Fabia’s comments: ‘Love thy neighbor and love thy enemy’

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

Last month, Diego Sanchez parted ways with his highly controversial coach and mentor, Joshua Fabia, following a split with the UFC. Fabia did not take the parting of ways well, publicly blasting Sanchez shortly after it happened and making some serious accusations towards Sanchez regarding his character and health. But despite Fabia’s comments, Sanchez is taking the high road in his split with former “guru,” posting his response to the situation on his social media yesterday.

To all of my family, friends, fans and the mma community

Thank you all for your continued love and support through this very challenging time in my life. I appreciate all of the defense that arose for me on behalf of my career, myself and all of those who were involved. Thank you for those that have been sensitive to this situation. I apologize to all of those that were affected negatively. I will refrain from provoking this situation any longer. I refuse to fire back on accusations that in the intent were made to provoke me and those close to me. Once again, my faith has taught me to love thy neighbor and love thy enemy. I wish for peace to surface moving forward. Luke 6:27-36.

I will lift Josh and Rebecca up in prayer Prayers that god helps them find their peaceful awareness.

In Christ

Diego Sanchez

Sanchez and Fabia began working together in 2019 and since then, Fabia has been an ongoing topic of scorn for MMA fans for his unorthodox training techniques, including upside down striking training and chasing fighters with knives. However, that derision turned into something more serious recently when Sanchez had a public falling out with the UFC where he revealed that he had disowned some family members to stay “loyal” to Fabia, and the outsized role Fabia had on Sanchez’s life, including having power of attorney privileges and controlling Sanchez’s social media. Fortunately, Fabia’s power of attorney was revoked upon the ending of their professional relationship and now Sanchez revealed that he also reclaimed his own social media.

Sanchez was recently released from the UFC ahead of what was supposed to be his retirement fight against Donald Cerrone. The separation was far from amicable but UFC President Dana White did say recently that he isn’t worried about what was said and that Sanchez can call him “anytime.”
