Robbie Lawler out of UFC 255 bout with Mike Perry due to injury

Robbie Lawler won’t be competing next month.

Lawler (28-15 MMA, 13-9 UFC), a former UFC welterweight champion, was forced to withdraw from his bout with Mike Perry (14-6 MMA, 7-6 UFC) at UFC 255 due to an injury. Perry announced the news on Twitter, and MMA Junkie subsequently confirmed it with a person with knowledge of Lawler’s removal.

UFC 255 takes place Nov. 21 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims expected for ESPN and ESPN+.

Perry posted online that he plans on staying on the card. He even suggested Khamzat Chimaev as a potential opponent a weight class above at middleweight. Chimaev is currently scheduled to take on top welterweight contender Leon Edwards on on Dec. 19.

Perry is coming off a decision win over Mickey Gall at UFC on ESPN 12 in June. The 29-year-old fighter has been entangled in outside-the-cage issues, including a situation in which he got into a troubling altercation at a restaurant that was caught on video. Additionally, Mike Perry’s ex-wife, Danielle Nicholson, alleged Perry of abused her during their marriage in a recent interview with MMA Junkie.

UFC officials forced Perry to take a hiatus in the aftermath of the restaurant altercation, stating the promotion wouldn’t offer Perry any fights until he sought help. ESPN reported Perry completed an “intensive anger management program.” UFC president Dana White also recently addressed Nickerson’s allegations of abuse and said he only knew a judged denied Nickerson a restraining order, and that “nothing really came out of it.”

The UFC 255 lineup currently includes:

  • Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Alex Perez – for flyweight title
  • Valentina Shevchenko vs. Jennifer Maia – for women’s flyweight title
