Sean Shelby’s Shoes: What’s next for Stephen Thompson after UFC Fight Night 183 win?

Stephen Thompson is still a handful for anyone in the welterweight division to deal with and he proved as much Saturday by defeating Geoff Neal in the UFC Fight Night 183 headliner.

The “Wonderboy” striking arsenal proved too much over five rounds at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Thompson (16-4-1 MMA, 11-4-1 UFC) won every rounds on the judges’ scorecards for a clear-cut unanimous decision win over Neal (13-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC).

Thompson has now won back-to-back fights against streaking rising talent at 170 pounds in Neal and Vicente Luque. Having won both decisively, Thompson is now shooting for an upward move in the rankings and called for a rematch against Jorge Masvidal (35-14 MMA, 12-7 UFC), whom he beat by unanimous decision at UFC 217 in November 2017.

Is that rematch likely to happen for Thompson, though? Or are there better alternatives for him?

Watch the video above for thoughts and analysis on Thompson’s future after UFC Fight Night 183.
