Spinning Back Clique: On Israel Adesanya’s brilliance, Masvidal vs. Covington, Pacquiao vs. McGregor

Welcome to “Spinning Back Clique,” MMA Junkie’s weekly show that takes a spin through the biggest topics in mixed martial arts. This week, MMA Junkie managing editor Simon Samano hosts with “Gorgeous” George and “Goze,” along with Nolan King. Lots to discuss, so let’s get to it!

SHOW TOPICS

  • Israel Adesanya was brilliant at UFC 253, finishing Paulo Costa early in the second round of their middleweight title fight. What was your biggest takeaway from Adesanya’s performance?
  • Jan Blachowicz claimed the light heavyweight title with a second-round knockout of Dominick Reyes at UFC 253 and afterward stated his desire to fight Jon Jones, who vacated the belt in anticipation of a move to heavyweight. Would you rather see that fight or have Blachowicz keep moving on with the current crop of 205-pound contenders?
  • Between Costa and Reyes, which one is more likely to get back to a title shot?
  • Colby Covington has put the pressure on Jorge Masvidal, saying the ball is in his court for them to settle their beef. UFC president Dana White also said it’s “very possible” that’s the fight the promotion would make over a rematch between Masvidal and Nate Diaz as originally planned. If you’re Masvidal, why should (or why shouldn’t) you take the Covington fight first?
  • Shocker: Conor McGregor doesn’t intend on staying retired and is looking for a return to boxing against Manny Pacquiao. Apparently both sides are in talks. So on a scale of 1 to 10, how interested are we in Pac-Mac?

For answers to all of those questions, watch Episode 48 of “Spinning Back Clique” above.
