UFC 254 medical suspensions: Three fighters handed provisional six-month layoffs

Jared Cannonier, Nathaniel Wood and Liana Jojua all face potential layoffs of up to six months following UFC 254.

Cannonier (13-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) was defeated by Robert Whittaker via unanimous decision in the middleweight co-main event bout at “UFC Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi,  while British bantamweight Wood (17-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) was edged on the scorecards by Casey Kenney in their 140-pound catchweight preliminary card matchup.

Following their routine post-fight medical inspections, both men were handed 180-day medical suspensions pending medical clearance for injuries sustained during their respective bouts. Cannonier requires his left wrist to be cleared by a doctor before he is permitted to return, while Wood will need his right hand to be cleared after a negative x-ray following his bout.

Georgian flyweight Jojua (8-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has also been handed a six-month suspension after her bout with Miranda Maverick was stopped at the end of the first round due to a large cut on Jojua’s nose. She is required to be cleared by an ENT before she is ready to return.

MMA Junkie obtained the full list of medical suspensions from MixedMartialArts.com for UFC 254, which took place this past Saturday at Flash Forum at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
