Philipe Lins and Don’Tale Mayes will battle for their first UFC victory when they meet at a Fight Night event in Las Vegas on Nov. 7, multiple people with knowledge of the booking told MMA Fighting.
Mayes (7-4), a three-time Contender Series hopeful, went 0-2 under the UFC banner after a pair of submission defeats to Ciryl Gane and Rodrigo Nascimento. “Kong” needed two victories on Dana White’s show to secure a contract with the promotion, stopping Mitchell Sipe and Ricardo Prasel.
Lins (14-5) signed with the UFC after becoming the PFL heavyweight champion in 2018, but lost back to back fights to Andrei Arlovski and Tanner Boser in 2020. “Monstro” scored 12 of his 14 victories by stoppage, finishing the likes of Josh Copeland, Jared Rosholt, Alex Nicholson and Caio Alencar back in his PFL days.
Lins’ teammate Thiago Santos will headline the Nov. 7 UFC card against Glover Teixeira. The event will take place at the UFC APEX and air live on ESPN+.
