Should Brian Ortega get booked to fight Alexander Volkanovski in early 2021, he will be cleared and ready for action.

Ortega defeated The Korean Zombie with a one-sided unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Fight Island 6 this past weekend in Abu Dhabi. UFC president Dana White stated before the card that the winner of the 145-pound headliner would be the top contender to challenge Volkanovski—which could happen sooner rather than later should the champion be ready after medical suspensions for the event were handed down.

According to MMA.tv, the official record keepers for the Association of Boxing Commissions, Ortega will face a 30-day suspension, with 21 days of no contact. On the flip side, Korean Zombie is facing a 45-day suspension for a right eyelid laceration, along with 30 days without contact.

Two fighters on the card are facing possible six-month medical layoffs. Despite earning a unanimous decision win in a welterweight main card bout, James Krause needs to have his right knee cleared from an MRI before he can compete again, or be forced to sit out for 180 days.

Additionally, Mark Striegl must be cleared by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon before his next scheduled bout or he will be forced to sit on the sidelines for six months.
