UFC Fight Night 189 winner Marcin Tybura ‘would be happy to have’ Curtis Blaydes as next opponent

LAS VEGAS – Marcin Tybura extended his winning streak to five at UFC Fight Night 189 and he’d like to try to make it six in a row against one of the division’s top contenders.

In Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 189 co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Tybura (22-6 MMA, 9-5 UFC) defeated Walt Harris with a first-round TKO from ground-and-pound. When it comes to the next batch of rankings, Tybura thinks he should be as high as Harris (13-10 MMA, 6-8 UFC) previously was, if not higher.

“I should at least replace Walt Harris at No. 8,” Tybura said at a post-fight news conference. “But, you know, it’s not my plan to argue about my place in the rankings. I’m just here to do my job and it will be done by itself.”

While Tybura sees a couple of options for his next fight, he zoned in on Curtis Blaydes (14-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC). The multi-time UFC headliner has been a top contender of the heavyweight division for years, but is coming off a recent knockout loss against Derrick Lewis in February.

“I didn’t actually do the research on who’s booked already,” Tybura said. “As I know, Alexander Volkov is booked. I don’t know if Curtis Blaydes is booked, but if not, I’d be happy to have him – or the guys from the main event today. The winner would be awesome.”

Volkov (33-8 MMA, 7-2 UFC), whom Tybura also mentioned, headlines UFC Fight Night 190 on June 26 when he takes on Ciryl Gane. Saturday’s main event winner, who was not decided at the time of Tybura’s interview, was Jairzinho Rozenstruik, who finished Augusto Sakai with punches in Round 1.
