With a career built on submission victories it should be no surprise Jimmy Flick tapped out Cody Durden in his octagon debut but no one could have predicted the spectacular fashion of his finish.

The Contender Series veteran was facing some early struggles against Durden on the feet but that’s when Flick launched a head kick that changed the momentum in the fight. Durden actually caught the kick but that allowed Flick to leap into the air as he latched into his opponent and fell down to the ground after catching the flying triangle choke.

As soon as the action hit the mat, Flick locked his legs into position and Durden was trapped with nowhere to go. Despite his best efforts to break free, Durden tapped out at 3:18 into the opening round.

“That’s what I do. I finish fights,” Flick shouted after making a successful UFC debut. “I’m exciting. I threw that head kick and when he grabbed it, I just threw that flying triangle. Your boy wants that $50K!”

With 16 wins on his resume and 14 coming by way of submission, Flick has proven that he’s dangerous anytime the fight hits the floor but his flying triangle choke showed that he’s willing to pull off creative and unique ways to bring the action into his world on the ground.

Flick pulled off a similarly impressive submission on the Contender Series to earn his UFC contract and he’s now riding a four-fight win streak overall. As the flyweight division continues to grow, Flick appears to be a prospect on the rise after picking up the highlight reel victory at UFC Vegas 17.
