UFC bantamweight Chris Gutierrez is proud of how far he has come over the last couple of years as a human being, which has translated into success inside the octagon.

Gutierrez is coming off of a short-notice unanimous decision over Andre Ewell at UFC 258. After being submitted in his octagon debut by Raoni Barcelos at the The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale, “El Guapo” is unbeaten over his last five appearances, including a TKO via leg kicks against Vince Morales and decision victories over Geraldo de Freitas and Ryan MacDonald.

While he is enjoying in-cage success, Gutierrez believes he has a lot to offer outside of fighting based on his personal experiences, including a brush with suicidal committing suicide while dealing with his current custody battle. Currently, the Factory X standout has not seen his son in two years.

Check out an exclusive interview with Gutierrez as he speaks to MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck about how his victory with Ewell came together, the conversation he had with his head coach Marc Montoya between rounds, whether or not he’s the most underrated fighter in the division, the next potential steps in his custody battle, how he wants to continue helping others dealing with depression and hard times in life, when he wants to return to the octagon, and more.
