Video: Should PFL change its strategy for big name free agent signings?

PFL has become a landing spot for some big names in recent seasons.

From former UFC and Bellator champions, to other top-ranked talents, the big free agent signings to the promotion found difficulty in reaching the $1 million prize that awaits the season’s champion.

The general expectation has been that when the familiar names from the bigger organizations move to a new landing spot, they will simply show up and get their hand raised against “lesser” competition.

Anthony Pettis, Jeremy Stephens, Rory MacDonald, Julia Budd, and Fabricio Werdum were some of the biggest names to join the PFL with high expectations. However, the reality is that PFL’s fighters have proven to be staunch opposition to the new additions looking to further their careers in a new home.

Should PFL continue to pursue recognizable names? Or does that prove to be a mistake when they come in and lose? Does the underdog story help elevate the promotion’s brand?

Our panel of Brian “Goze” Garcia, Nolan King, and Matt Wells discuss the topic along with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia in the video above.

“Spinning Back Clique” is released each Tuesday on MMA Junkie’s YouTube channel. You can watch the full episode in the video below.
