Jan Blachowicz’s UFC 253 win receives government approval back home in Poland

“Legendary Polish Power” met Polish political power this week as newly-crowned UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz returned home to Poland.

Blachowicz (27-8 MMA, 10-5 UFC) finished Dominick Reyes in the second round of their fight for the vacant UFC 205-pound title in the co-main event of UFC 253 on Saturday night and was greeted by a hero’s welcome when he flew back to Poland on Monday.

That welcome continued when he was invited to an audience with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who congratulated him on his victory at “UFC Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi.

Blachowicz shared his proud moment with his followers on Instagram, commenting (via translation), “Thank you very much for the invitation from Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Both for me and the entire MMA community, it proves that our discipline is not only popular, but also noticeable by the most important people in Poland. It is an honor to be an ambassador of this amazing sport. I hope that after our conversation, the Prime Minister will be waiting in front of the TV, regardless of the time, to watch my next fight ;)”
