Jon Jones: Fighting Israel Adesanya, Jan Blachowicz ‘does nothing for my legacy’

Jon Jones is solely focused on becoming a two-division champion.

While Jones has indulged in back-and-forth social media chatter with UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, and to a lesser degree UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz, he has for the most part maintained that his goal is to become UFC heavyweight champion after vacating his own light heavyweight title in August.

Late Monday evening, Jones continued a Twitter run that also involved responding to criticism from longtime rival Daniel Cormier and he dismissed the suggestion that there is any need for him to fight Adesanya or Blachowicz.

“You’re joking right?” Jones wrote in response to a fan. “I’ve been making millions since my early 20s, I don’t need a super fight with anyone. Fighting guys like Jan and Izzy does nothing for my legacy, winning the Heavyweight belt is the only thing that can bring me any higher than I already am. Facts.”

“Outside of a gigantic payday, [Adesanya] does nothing for me,” he added. “Anderson [Silva] was the man to beat in that weight class, not him. The next biggest legacy move for me is Stipe [Miocic] and I want all the smoke.”

A bout between Jones and Miocic has been discussed on several occasions, though it remains to be seen whether the two-time heavyweight champion will welcome “Bones” to his division or face No. 1 contender Francis Ngannou in a rematch.

Jones wrote several other tweets critical of Adesanya, which can be seen below:

Jones has not competed since February, where he won a unanimous decision over Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 to defend his title for a third straight time. It was his 11th successful UFC title defense overall.

According to UFC President Dana White, the promotion is currently working on a superfight between Adesanya and Blachowicz that would be for Blachowicz’s 205-pound title.
