Pedro Munhoz vs. Jimmie Rivera rematch rescheduled for UFC 258

Pedro Munhoz | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

The bantamweight rematch between Pedro Munhoz and Jimmie Rivera will still happen, but it might not be on Fight Island.

Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that the matchup will no longer happen on the Jan. 20 UFC Fight Island 8 card due to undisclosed reasons and will now take place at UFC 258 on Feb. 13. A location for the pay-per-view event has yet to be revealed.

The first meeting between Munhoz and Rivera took place at a UFC Fight Night event in Sao Paulo in November 2015. Rivera defeated Munhoz via split decision in the former’s second octagon appearance.

Munhoz looks to snap a two-fight losing skid. “The Young Punisher” knocked out Cody Garbrandt at UFC 235 to extend his winning streak to three fights before dropping back-to-back decisions to Aljamain Sterling and Frankie Edgar.

Rivera recently ended the first losing streak of his professional career when he earned a unanimous decision against Cody Stamann at UFC on ESPN 13 in July. “El Terror” has seven octagon wins, which includes victories over Urijah Faber, John Dodson and Thomas Almeida.

UFC 258 will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns.
