Tony Ferguson rips ‘sell out’ Dustin Poirier for moving on to Conor McGregor

Tony Ferguson is not pleased with Dustin Poirier.

After a fight between Ferguson (25-4 MMA, 15-2 UFC) and Poirier (26-6 MMA, 18-5 UFC) fizzled for UFC 254 this month, “The Diamond” appears to be focused on a rematch with McGregor (22-4 MMA, 10-2 UFC). Both men claim they’ve accepted the fight, but McGregor has a caveat of wanting it to happen in 2020, which the UFC has yet to publicly comment on.

The reason Ferguson didn’t fight Poirier at UFC 254 was because of money. Poirier wanted a more significant contract, and when the UFC denied him, Ferguson took to social media to stand by his fellow lightweight contender. The matchup couldn’t be finalized, though, and the promotion moved on.

Now Poirier has seemingly moved on, too. McGregor has offered Poirier a $500,000 donation for his “The Good Fight Foundation” charity organization should they compete at UFC 255 on Nov. 21 or UFC 256 on Dec. 12, and that was one of many things to draw Ferguson’s ire (via Twitter):

What A Sell Out, Taking A Bribe From An International Terrorist. Good Job Kid. I Represent America. All That Talk About The Fight Game Only To Be Afraid & Be Left Behind Out Of The Loop. Take The Money & Be Proud Fake.

Ferguson recently told ESPN that he’s looking to get back in the octagon soon and earn his way back to a lightweight title fight with the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje. UFC president Dana White recently confirmed that possibility for “El Cucuy,” and said he would attempt to book a fight against Nurmagomedov for a sixth time if the stars aligned.
