UFC free fight: Aljamain Sterling earns title shot with quick submission win over Cory Sandhagen

Aljamain Sterling made it clear he deserves to be the next in line for the UFC bantamweight title.

The 135-pound contender had one of the most impressive performances of his career in his last outing against Cory Sandhagen. Sterling (19-3 MMA, 11-3 UFC) submitted Sandhagen less than two minutes into the first round of their main card bout this past June at UFC 250.

The performance not only got Sterling a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus and improved his winning streak to five in a row but also got him a title shot. Sterling is set to face current bantamweight champion Petr Yan on March 6 at UFC 259.

The 135-pound title bout joins another pair of championship fights, as Jan Blachowicz defends his light heavyweight belt against Israel Adesanya and Amanda Nunes puts her women’s featherweight title on the line against Megan Anderson.
