Video: UFC veteran John Moraga dropped 7 seconds into fight on Canelo undercard, loses in second round

One-time UFC title challenger John Moraga’s second career as a pro boxer is trending down after a second-round knockout loss on the undercard of Saturday’s Canelo vs. Yildirim event.

It took Moraga just seven seconds to hit the canvas for the first time against Marc Castro in a junior lightweight (126-130 pounds) bout. After two more knockdowns in the second frame – one via body shot and another from a left uppercut – the bout was called off via TKO at the 2:29 mark.

The boxing match was Moraga’s fourth as a professional and left him with a 1-3 record. After a knockout loss to current UFC flyweight champ Deiveson Figueiredo in August 2018 signaled the end of a six-year octagon career, he moved back to the squared circle in October 2019, seven years after a decision loss in his pro boxing debut. After a second-round TKO victory, he was outpointed in his next outing before his meeting with Castro.

Moraga debuted in the UFC in 2012 and won two straight before facing off with now-former champ Demetrious Johnson, the record-holder for most consecutive title defenses. He made it to the fifth round before submitting to an armbar; he went 6-5 in his next 11 appearances.
