James Krause is one of two fighters who are looking at potential six-month stays on the sidelines after the UFC’s most recent event.
Krause (28-8 MMA, 9-4 UFC) picked up a unanimous decision win over Claudio Silva (14-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) on the main card, but could be heard talking to his corner about a potential knee injury. After post-fight inspections, Krause was given a 180-day medical suspension unless a doctor clears his right knee after an MRI.
MMA Junkie on Monday obtained the full list of medical suspensions from MixedMartialArts.com for UFC on ESPN+ 38, which took place this past Saturday at Flash Forum at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
In the main event, Chan Sung Jung (16-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) dropped a lopsided decision to Brian Ortega (15-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC). Jung will be forced to sit 45 days with 30 days of no contact due to a cut sustained on his right eyelid. Ortega, who made his return after almost two years away from competition, was suspended for 30 days due to precautionary reasons.
All fighters on the card were given a mandatory seven-day suspension for rest. The list of UFC on ESPN+ 38 medical suspensions beyond the minimum includes:
- Brian Ortega: Suspended 30 days for “hard bout” and 21 days with no contact.
- Chan Sung Jung: Suspended 45 days to for right eyelid laceration and “hard bout” and 30 days with no contact.
- Katlyn Chookagian: Suspended 30 days and 21 days no contact.
- Modestas Bukauskas: Suspended 30 days and 45 days no contact.
- James Krause: Suspended 180 days or a minimum suspension of 30 days with 21 no contact if cleared by MRI for right knee.
- Claudio Silva: Suspended for 30 days for Left Tib/Fib and 21 days no contact
- Thomas Almeida: Suspended 30 days for “hard bout” and 21 days with no contact.
- Guram Kutateladze: Suspended 30 days for left eye hematoma and 21 days with no contact.
- Mateusz Gamrot: Suspended 30 days for “hard bout” and 21 days with no contact.
- Poliana Botelho: Suspended 30 days for right eye hematoma and 21 days with no contact.
- Jun Yong Park: Suspended 30 days for left eyebrow laceration and 21 days with no contact.
- John Phillips: Suspended 30 days for “hard bout” and 21 days with no contact.
- Fares Ziam: Suspended 30 days for “hard bout” and 21 days no contact.
- Jamie Mullarkey: 30 days for “hard bout” and 21 days with no contact.
- Gadzhimurad Antigulov: Suspended 45 days and 30 days with no contact.
- Mark Striegl: Suspended 180 days or cleared by OMF with a minimum 60 days suspension and 45 days with no contact.
